Berkita is the only miniature sheep we have
here on the farm but here wool is better than
most. Just like her personality, her wool is
soft and warm with lots of character.
One of the oldest of the English breeds of
sheep is the Southdown, originating on the
South Down hills of Sussex County,
England. These small sheep were know for
their extreme hardiness and produced meat
with unmatched tenderness and flavor then
any other breed of sheep.
Babydoll wool has been described as one
of the finest wools of all the British breeds.
Although it is short, about 2 to 3 inches,
with lots of memory, and has a nice bounce.
The fineness can ranges from 23 to 29
microns which means most people can wear
it next to the skin comfortably. It is easy to
spin and produces yarn with a lot of cushion
and elasticity. Babydoll wool is great for
socks, mittens, hats, blankets, and sweaters.
You will find it is very durable.
